Ok ok I gotta say first and foremost, I really liked this movie. I think I had a different perspective than others heading into this movie since I was expecting just how the human population would react to the first attacks. To a city who didn't know the rules and had to figure them out during confusion. While I was hoping it would explain the aliens and all that, I wasn't expecting all that much about it. This movie gave us new and interesting characters that made me curious about their motives and what was driving them to make certain choices. It was refreshing to see a movie that focused more on storytelling and overall characters and emotion rather than all the "action-packed, must see, explosion, this changes everything" type of boring movies that the film industry has had a bad habit of making lately. It showed so much more than just "strong female fighter(which I love btw dont get me wrong) and funny, but overdone, punchlines and lots of really bad cgi". It showed characters who griefed, screamed, felt fear, found hope, acted in courage, compassion and just so much great stuff. Each character felt realistic and I cared about what would happen to them and wanted to see them survive. Some reviews have talked about how the protagonist was just a aimless woman who wanted pizza while the world crumbled. From an outside perspective, its easy to see that but as I watched the movie, I just wanted to understand why it meant so much to her. She was a person, normal and with struggle just like any other. She wasn't shaped to check off a list to make her like every. other. character. that. movies. make. She was a woman who searched for closure and was struggling but coming to peace with her journey. Overall, great movie. Love the shots and script and omgggggg I loved these actors/actresses!! Lupita and Joseph absolutely NAILED those roles and I loved seeing them portray these characters in such deep and real ways. I have a lot of appreciation for the people who put together this movie and I loved the ending (I sat and stared at the screen for a solid 10 seconds in silence along with everyone else in the theater) and the quality. While I hope they further explain the aliens origin, I think it still makes it intresting for us to think about until they do. I'm really rooting for the writers to make it good to make up for those who felt frustrated for not having an explanation in this film. Still, this movie is one of the best I've seen come out in a while so thank you.
