In many ways the Congress superseded the Matrix Quartet. The philosophical implications of a Metaverse are explored in this film with humor, depth, and a relentless tender intelligence. The same themes are present in both films: technology, capital, identity, alternate realities, revolution and love. Nevertheless, Congress' implicit critique through its own version of the simulated real is not one fascinated by a metaphysical carnival of sophistries relying on dazzling visual effects as is in the Matrix franchise to give it direction. Congress pursues the problem of meaning, agency and liberty with a lighter touch that is more effective by maintaining distinctions that subtly outline the politics of Technology. Wright is brilliant in her acting choices which provide heart and relevance to us that are subjected to this Hyper Object known as Capital.
