This series has a very strong opening episode. I wish the consistency and tautness of such an introduction to what lies ahead had remained consistent. By the end of the series, I felt disappointment at what could have been better reveals as to what motivated the characters involved. Perhaps, in pivotal scenes the casting or acting or even directing did not deliver with sufficient depth satisfying resolutions to complex characters and situations.

In many ways the Congress superseded the Matrix Quartet. The philosophical implications of a Metaverse are explored in this film with humor, depth, and a relentless tender intelligence. The same themes are present in both films: technology, capital, identity, alternate realities, revolution and love. Nevertheless, Congress' implicit critique through its own version of the simulated real is not one fascinated by a metaphysical carnival of sophistries relying on dazzling visual effects as is in the Matrix franchise to give it direction. Congress pursues the problem of meaning, agency and liberty with a lighter touch that is more effective by maintaining distinctions that subtly outline the politics of Technology. Wright is brilliant in her acting choices which provide heart and relevance to us that are subjected to this Hyper Object known as Capital. Ari Goldman is a master Director who is clear eyed about what matters and takes us on a deliberate articulation and resolution of what we face today.

This is written after watching 3 episodes. I will continue watching. The acting, directing, and production are high end. The topic in itself is a deep one (transformation, coaching, technologies of self care) and so far the story line and character development is not staying in the shallows of the existential river.

A lot of fun. innovative plot twists. emotionally compelling.

One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The directing is immaculate. A clear and steady rumination on intimacy, love, belonging and solitude. The film transcends cultural horizons through a pathos that is both sober and poetic. The acting is measured and honest. See this.
