...listen, this book was NOT what I expected it to be, I picked it up and went in blind after picking it up in Barnes and nobles. I am a young adult but do glide into some older books occasionally however, the mystery held up to that of a YA (ive actually reas YA's with better twists) this definitely wasn't a thriller, I was expecting more from the so called queen of twists but alas, it didn't happen. It didn't make much sense when you look at the book as a whole, I enjoyed it in parts and thought Calvin was endearing. I personally did love his character..yes blue blue eyes may have been overused, but I found it nice. I was hoping that the twist was he was actually a good guy, in the back of the book it says a game of cat and mouse, however I was hoping it was going to be an opposite situation..like some things came out that proved his innocence? Overall the story was inconsistent with many plot holes and side quests that were not explained. (Betty there at night time asking her not to tell Calvin? Never spoke about again???) Charlotte never got her resolution with what she knew..ntm Joe didn't explain what was wrong with Calvin. The tacky animal "country" life scares for grace were definitely cringe and I Disliked the teddy bear shit. I liked that it was used in his death, however..I found it strange how many times it was brought up. Grace as a character, or in better words, Avery. Was horrible. I disliked her, and. Constantly found her annoying. I understand it was meant to be like, an unreliable narrorator situation and I caught so many clues very early on, but in all honesty, what really tops the cake on her insufferable behavior, was the fact she cheated on her husband. The sex scene wasn't bad, at the time I didn't mind it. But knowing later on she took pleasure in not just killing Calvin, but sleeping with him, it was weird and gross to me. I disliked her alot. I read the book for mystery, kept reading for Calvin, and finished it bc my gf was listening to me read it..I'm disappointed that it was so obvious but, Calvin for the win.
