This could have been a good movie. If it had been shot in Bali, if it had portrayed Balinese culture correctly (hugging is not a big thing, spirituality is not a big thing, families are not so big); if there had been any chemistry between the girl and the boy, and if it had concentrated in the reality of a divorced couple having done a great job bringing up their child and genuinely caring for her. There was no need for the misplaced “comedy” of verbal fighting between the parents. Instead of the schmaltzy ending, just keep it with the father’s quote “… and then you just move on, you just move on”. Any parent would have noticed truly heartfelt moments in this movie, only to be annoyed by the flat comedy, condescending portrayal of seaweed farming, and unnecessary ending.
