This book is clearly written by a straight person imagining what queer relationships are like—very much seen through the heteronormative gaze: all the girls look like Barbies from the 70s, talk about nothing but clothes and their hair, then are suddenly making out for the last 5 pages of the book. Additionally, plotwise, there were a lot of issues, including the fact that the two main characters killed multiple innocent people and never paid any kind of price for that. They just rode off into the sunset together. Not a great message. Instead, I’d recommend Belle of the Ball. Better illustrations and a way more realistic look at queer dynamics. I don’t love it when straight authors just throw a gay storyline in to be edgy or to find a publisher.
