I only thought it was OK. The songs were forgettable, the choreography was meh, the show was painfully long, and Ariana Grande was miscast. For a lot of the movie I felt as though I was being hit over the head with a hammer. It was trying too hard. Jonathan Bailey was a respite but I really couldn’t figure out how he fit in other than to be so delightful to look at. And Jeff Goldblum was a breath of fresh air. Cynthia Erivo was brilliant as Elphaba. And the sets and costumes were magnificent. But all of it put together in a 2 hour and 40 minute film was just much less than I was hoping for. I forgot every song immediately after they were sung and forgot the film before I left the theater. I was expecting great but it was just OK.

Penelope Wilton is bumped off in the first five minutes. Those were the only five minutes worth watching. The rest of it was dull, silly and massively disappointing. The writing, casting, acting, all an insult to Agatha Christie’s legacy.

Worst moving I’ve seen this year. Slow and depressing.

I read the book with my 7 year old grandson before seeing the movie. Despite the departures from the book the movie was wonderfully entertaining. The CGI dog worked for us and made Buck feel more accessible to a kid. And really, this is a family movie. Harrison Ford is, as always, great and the scenery is worth the price of admission
