I've been watching this show for just a bit under a year now. It is absolutely one of the best shows I have ever seen. I've become very obsessed with seeing not only how the murders unfold, but how the characters relationships unfold as well. I like how it handles serious topics such as homophobia and racism. It shows that not everyone was this accepting back then. Of course, if this is not the first review you are reading for this show, you would have noticed people complaining about how "Oh, two girls kissed! How utterly disgusting!" or "The fact that this character is gay is unnecessary", but I don't agree with them. In fact, my favourite character on the show is Detective Watts, who is gay! But about the actual mysteries, I can say with full certainty that this show is not for the squeamish. There are a lot of bloody scenes (which I enjoy very much, I'm a huge fan of stuff like that), and you get to see our coroners cutting up a person's body. Speaking of the coroners, I just want to mention that the coroners that were women are fantastic role models. And of course, our main detective. Detective Murdoch is a very entertaining character, and it's very nice to see him develop not only as a police officer, but also as a person over the seasons. In conclusion, I recommend this show to people who are not afraid of blood, want a change of pace from the usual modern shows (the show is set in the Victorian era), and people who like mysteries.
