Overall, I really liked this movie. There are shots that look beautiful and it provides more insight to the life cycle of Xenomorphs and the plans of the Weyland company.
I felt slightly disappointed because it was advertised as terrifying and super scary, but it’s not. The original Alien is tense and suspenseful, but the sequel, Aliens, was more geared towards action with moments of suspense or horror. This movie lies somewhere in between, but closer to the Aliens side. It’s got lots of action once it gets going but I did not find it particularly scary.
It’s got some pretty good VFX for most of the movie, but there is one scene where a face hugger just looks like it’s attached to a remote control car and another scene that was really jarring how bad it looked. If those two effects had been in movies in the 70s or 80s, I could give them a pass, but placed in a movie with other effects that are really good, it’s hard to let slide.
Overall, it’s a pretty decent movie and I’m glad it’s part of the franchise. I would put it on par with Prometheus and would love to see another Alien movie by these writers and director.
