Just Nakiah

As a huge fan of the Lion king, who has grown up watching the original I absolutely despised this film. They completely butchered Scars villain song, my second favourite within the movie. I remember walking out of the theatre when it came on, because it annoyed me that much. I’ve heard over and over again it’s because hyenas are smart, so scar couldn’t belittle them and make them seem dumb as he does in the original. But it’s a fricken kids movie, they don’t need to know that, they will learn that later in life. Which brings me to the hyenas. Yes they are smart animals, but by making them smart they took away some of the funniest characters from the original. I didn’t laugh once when they were on screen. I wish they kept the goofy stuff they did in the original. And can we please talk about Beyoncé, she absolutely ruins ‘can you feel the love tonight’. I couldn’t even hear the male lead singing because she completely overpowers him with the vocals. This is meant to be a duet, yet all you can hear is Beyoncé. Not to mention the random Beyoncé song near the end that just feels so out of place. I ain’t a Beyoncé hater but she ruined this movie for me. I know this movie is a live action but by bringing it to life with real life animation took away all the beautiful colours from the original. ‘Can’t wait to be king’ (my favourite song) had such amazing bright colours, which was then saturate within the remake. Which comes to my final point, they should’ve left Lion king alone as it was already a masterpiece. It didn’t need a live action remake. Disney really needs to stop making all these live actions and come up with some original ideas. Only good thing was the return of the original voice actor of Mufasa, James Earl Jones who still pulled off incredible voice acting.

I honestly haven’t watched this series for the fact that there are now super magical powers. I’m sorry but this isn’t the Lion King I grew up with. Since when were there powers? It is really unrealistic and just completely changes the lion king movies. It was a movie about animals, not magical animals. I like to count this as not cannon for that fact alone (even though it’s supposed to be, not in my eyes). If you enjoy this series good on you, but as a true Lion king fan this just isn’t what I wanted to become of my favourite movies.
