Honestly, this was actually worse than i thought it would be.
I get it, the directors wanted to give the epic a spin to please the younger audience and it would have been justified had they not completely messed up the characters, dialogue delivery, and historical accuracy.
It is more of a B-grade superhero movie than it is a new age reboot of lord Ram's story. Lord Ram playing boxing with flying ghosts which look straight out of a Harry Potter movie, really?
The characters are totally messed up. From their dialogues to their body language, it just does not suit the epic at all. Specially the way ravan behaves, does not even do ravan justice. They tried to portray him as a (retarded) marvel villian than an actual king who, even though unjust, was one of the most powerful beings there was at that time. Honestly, his portrayal was so bad it was actually funny. It's probably the worst thing about this movie. Even the other characters including Indrajeet and lord lakshman were horribly portrayed. The acters acted like one would act in a school play.
Coming to the story, it was way too rushed. So much that there was absolutely zero character development. There was no connect to the characters. Now I get it that it's impossible to fit the whole ramayana in a 2-3 hour movie but they still could have done an infinitely better job. Maybe they could've made the movie in two parts. The dialogue delivery was bland and lacked emotions.
If I try to write everything that made this movie horrible i would have to keep writing for hours. I just hope someday someone gives the epic another shot and does a better job. Something which isn't absolutely cringe. Something which has modern elements but still does justice to the historical characters. Something which makes you feel the story and it's emotions.
What the directors churned out was truly scary. I now understand the outcry of religious people over this movie. I thought they were against the modern touches and overreacting as usual but no not this time, it actually is as pathetic as people are claiming it to be. Oh and most of the postive reviews are paid, just take a look at the way they're typed, they're all written in a similar style.
Honestly, I'd rather get strapped to a chair and watch Baalveer on loop for 7 days straight than watch this movie one more time.
