I read The Snowy Day to my son from the time he was 6 months old until he was 3 years old nearly every day/night.
When he turned four he would read it to himself. (I believe he had memorized the words from my reading it to him and associated the pictures with the word.
It was his favorite book.
I loved that Peter was an African American child. The Snowy Day was one of the first children's books to present a Black child as the main character and that color made no difference.
Peter reacted to his first snow fall just like any other child would.
The book was heart-warming and groundbreaking. How I wish we could as adults return to such innocence.
