Wow! Sean Penn and Julia Roberts are absolutely amazing in this political dramatic satire. Roberts makes a captivating sympathetic Martha, and Penn’s depiction of John Mitchell will blow you away. They were both scary good. All of the actors in this series did a wonderful job portraying their character. Gaslit stands out as one of the best of many excellent series being broadcast on various networks. This STARZ political satire will keep you entertained and educate those of you who don’t already know what occurred during the Watergate break in. During one scene shot in “The Washing Post” I nearly expected “All the President’s Men” actor Robert Redford to turn around and interact with Roberts character Martha. Gaslit follows the historical events fairly accurately, but does have a few cosmetic flaws. Martha Mitchell was blonde, not a redhead. Dean’s wife didn’t have dark eyebrows seen in today’s style of toe-headed women. And Dean’s hair wasn’t as long as depicted in the series. As usual, when Hollywood does a historical dramatic satire, we see much of what can only be guessed at behind closed doors. This is not a documentary after all. Although Shea Whigham was brilliant playing Liddy, some of the scenes were gratuitous and difficult to watch. But Liddy was completely nuts in real life and Wigham nailed this. One resounding truth remains though;
Martha Was Right!
Bravo STARZ!
