Im going to be sooo honest. This wasnt it and I loveeee Lupita so much. But this plot was not what I was expecting. Day 1 to me implies how they came about like a military experiment gone wrong. Not another perspective of Day 1, which we already saw in a Quiet Place 2. Like what was the point of this? It’s almost like this shouldn’t have been made. Im waiting for the one to come back with the family. I legit saw a few people walk out the theater.

Quick thoughts- Im giving it 3 stars because it turned into a musical and it got to a point where I got confused. It wasnt too bad but the accent was contrived… Too many songs and had some filler scenes. Trying to make Viola look like shes so evil was too contrived. I also see the point with both the internal and external struggles of Snow but it got lost a little. I would have liked to seen him more conflicted. Honestly, some of the scenes just didn’t make sense and I didnt feel that strong connection with Lucy Gray Bird like I did with Katnis. Her accent and singing irritated me after the 3rd song and there wasn’t too much character development. It could have been cleaned up more for sure but it was entertaining overall.

Anything more than one star is being very generous. The movie had a lot of potential. There’s no denying that it had a message about beauty standards, society’s expectations of women, and individuality. But let’s not pretend that the rising action was good. It simply fell flat because I wasn’t surprised or was left wondering what will happen next. The movie started out good and had the potential to have our attention but it was just dull and left me thinking what was the point? The acting was subpar, the character development was blahh, the writing was blahh, the plot was blahh, even the score was blahh (there wasnt any thriller music). The only thing that I loved was the costume design. There should have been more conflict and more chaos, more rising action. When the girl said she saw them wheel out girls, they should have shown that part when she made the discovery. More heart wrenching music would have been nice. A slower revelation. Anything but what we saw would have been better.
