Xbox series S - ~100 hours of play time
It was a great experience, which was flawed by too many loading screens, a sub-par main storyline, and strange choices for loot. That’s the elevator pitch for me, and the way I listed those issues is exactly how annoying they were to my overall experience.
The loading screens were my least favorite part of the gameplay. I didn’t need to see my ship disconnect with every object that it coupled with, nor did I need to see it lift off from the platform every time I left a planet. I may have been a me problem, but I also didn’t realize that you could fast travel to and from most discovered locations from a planets surface without ever interacting with the ship itself. But the biggest flaw is how they tank the pacing. I’d be in the middle of an intense dogfight, then I’d have to wait through a cutscene to connect to the ship I disabled, then I had to confirm that I wanted to enter the ship, then I’d have to sit through a loading screen, and then I’d finally be on the ship. It wasn’t a huge problem, but the more barriers you have between experiences, the more time the human mind has to wander and lose interest.
The main storyline was weak, no doubt about it, but one excuse I could use to get around that issue is that there are tons of other storylines to follow that can supplement what I have come to refer to as the Bethesda “main tutorial”. You get some cool abilities that I never used, and you meet some fairly one-note characters. However, you can go on so many adventures outside of the main story that you can completely ignore it until you want to move on to new game +.
Finally, loot. I felt like there could be more balance with this aspect of the game. The paltry increases that the mods gave each item was almost negligible. I wish that you could, upon unlocking a certain perk, elevate a piece of armor to the next quality level. Balancing would also help with the fact that, once you unlock them, mercenary, trackers alliance, and bounty hunter armor have the best stats across the board, which in turn makes any other piece of armor obsolete. Honestly, a small gripe on the large scale.
I understand how someone can dislike the game, I just don’t.
