I’m pretty sure most of the 4-5 star reviews are rating the story line. If you read the book, it is an inspirational tale of many layers and complex characters. The movie is truly like a sappy hallmark channel movie. Cue sappy tearjerker music. Cue 30 something actors portraying university students. Cue wide tearjerker variations from the plot of the book. Barf. Some cringeworthy lines? As the coach is pondering his life decisions on his waterfront view porch with a glass of whiskey he states, “I love this view.” The model wife of the ordinary looking coach seductively says, “oh, maybe you’d like a better view”, and leaves her nighty in the doorway. Oh wow please administer a phenergan suppository stat, I’m feeling nauseous. I could go on, but I’m going to go have a glass of wine and mourn the missed opportunity to make a great movie from a great book.
