I have to go with the cartoon the series over the movie. My biggest problem (yes I double -checked) is that in the cartoon version firebenders could create fire with no source, but in the movie the firebenders needed a source...how do you mess that one up shaymalan! It is very hard to condense 10 hours of cartoon series into a couple hours for a movie so I think they hit the scenes decently that were important. In the cartoon Aang turned into a water monster but in the movie he created a tidal wave...ok I could let that slide. As far as the actors they were pretty decent representations, one commenter said they were black in the cartoon, they were not, they were Native American. All in all it was decent at best but watch the cartoon version instead, even adults will enjoy it.
