I shall try and be as concise as possible. The Positives: Firstly, I have to commend the beautiful cinematography at show in Nosferatu. The overall atmosphere and "design" of the movie was breathtaking. Definitely a feeling that every small detail was finely honed. Secondly, the acting on display was generally good. Not Oscar-worthy or "top of the class, A grade" but definitely a solid B grade school report. Nobody particularly let the side down. The Negatives: Sloppy writing which fails to invest the reader in the story. Poor pacing...I felt like snoozing at points. A hash-up of Bram Stoker's Dracula and Nosferatu which has no soul of its own. If you ever watched Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder in Bram Stoker's Dracula, you could understand the basis of their attraction. Unfortunately, this movie expects you to make sense of the various scenes it has loosely stitched together. Count Orlock grew tiresome rather than increasingly menacing...his moustache almost a Peter Seller's type joke affectation...his dialogue like one of those Sloths at the DMV on Zootropolis!! In Summary: Great costumes, atmosphere & visually stunning but that's about it. As a fan of gothic horror, I left feeling less than sated. The Lighthouse was great, however, Eggers has literally missed the plot here...sorry :(
