This is not the kind of horror movie that will make you jump out of your seat. No big scares here; it's more of a simple folk-tale on film. By cinematic standards it's crude, to the point that a film geek may have a hard time enjoying it. But in my opinion this only strengthens the folk-horror vibe. The sets and settings are deliciously rustic and atmospheric. It gives the appearance of having been filmed on location in the Ukraine 200 years ago with a shoestring budget.
