Pros:
1. I appreciated the multicultural component and about an immigrant family.
2. I loved the aspects of Cuban culture imbedded in the film.
3. It painted a picture of the immigrant experience in a positive light.
4. Andy Garcia played his part with great talent and finesse.
Cons:
1. It was not a comedy. I smiled a few times but never outright laughed.
2. Gloria Estefan(whom I admire greatly) and Andy Garcia had zero chemistry unlike what was experienced from Steve Martin and Diane Keaton. They oozed comedic chemistry.
3. The storyline is trite and boring especially with the bride and groom. Yawn!!!
4. The acting was subpar across the board. The characters of the bridal consultant and assistant was horrendous. I cringed in every scene. As was the storyline of the groom and his family. SMH!!
I was looking forward to this remake because the Steve Martin and Diane Keaton 1&2 version is undoubtedly two of my all-time favorite movies. I almost turned my tv off after about 15-20 minutes of this version but I persevered through it. Honestly, wish I had turned it off. Please do not make a part two with this cast and storyline!!!! I gave two stars because of Andy Garcia’s acting and the positive immigrant storyline. If not for those two things it would have been zero stars.
