I decided to go out with friends to see this movie for my 23rd birthday, and I can say this movie was really good. I couldn't understand the context of some events because I decided to go straight into this movie without seeing the first, but in all honesty, I wanted a fun movie to watch for a night out. As someone in Gen Z who grew up playing the Sonic games (shoutout to Sonic Heroes, the most goated game in the franchise imo), this really hit close to home. I wholeheartedly love the fact that the movie does not take itself seriously in the slightest. (Yes, I'm aware of the movie's age range, but even those types of movies have to have some great amount of effort so that all can enjoy.) It's always jokes and pop-culture references in every turn. It's the fact that the movie pokes fun in a "secondhand embarrassment but still wholesome" kind of way. The crazy bride and Knuckles especially stole the show, they were the best characters. Jim Carrey, also carried the movie, and his acting was spot-on.
