Ok, This is my first TV review so here I go: The Rookie is your basic cop show. BUT, when you get to watch it from the Rookie's point of view, it becomes something else. Learning what NOT to do, to doing the RIGHT thing. I like the different personalities of the cast and I like that the writers bring up relevant matters, i.e Black Lives Matter.
It's hard to try and maintain relevancy in a time where all shows are trying to be on the top of the Nielsen Ratings. To me, I find comfort in a show I can relate to on some level.
I adore Nathan Fillion since Firefly and Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place. Melissa O'Neill (Lucy Chen) and Eric Winter (Tim Bradford) are great in their roles. I like how since the beginning of the show they tell us their likes and pasts and the writers have kept that up into the 4th season.
But as with a lot of Tv shows, we fall into the tropes of having the same storylines from so many other shows: a romance that fails, really bad stuff happening to other characters. The outcomes become easy to predict. Not always, but most of the time.
Though, for the most part, I really do like the show. I love the characters and how much i start to root for them to do well. So for me that's why i give it 4 stars. Love the cast, the characters and stories.
