A Fun Cast Can’t Save This Disjointed Marvel Installment
The pacing starts off strange, almost as if we skipped an entire Captain Marvel 2, jumping in with reintroductions of characters from Disney+ series instead. While it’s nice to see familiar faces, relying on TV shows to fill in the backstory feels like unnecessary filler in a feature film, and it disrupts the flow.
Continuity issues in the movie are glaring, particularly when it comes to the Secret Invasion storyline. Fury’s connection with the Skrulls seems to have no lasting impact here, almost as if those high-stakes events never happened. And, bafflingly, The Marvels somehow skips any meaningful link to the multiverse saga until a last-ditch post-credit scene, which feels like a weak attempt to reel fans back in.
As for the musical segment — let’s just say it felt out of place and a little forced. But despite all this, the cast brings energy and heart, making the film enjoyable in parts and lifting an otherwise shaky script. If not for their commitment and chemistry, The Marvels would struggle even more. In the end, it’s fun but uneven, and while the actors do their best, they can’t quite save this one from missing the mark.
