The first I watched it was when it had already completed nearly 530 episodes and I happened to be in USA. I was truly fascinated and impressed by the messages it conveyed to the audience on various issues of abuse, women empowerment, joint families, extra marital affairs, etc.
However down the line the story line is getting pathetic and unrealistic.
It is absolutely ok for couples to divorce after 26 or even 30 years and re-marry.
For a character like Anupamaa to consider marriage when she has a daughter of marriageable age and a pregnant daughter-in-law is unrealistic - definitely not wrong though. But getting married in the style shown - nah!
And adoption - that is definitely a huge mistake. The impact it can have especially on a daughter who is at a vulnerable age will always be huge. No one can do justice to a small child who is adopted when they have their own - especially children with high emotional needs and who are already feeling insecure in so many ways.
Acting wise - best portrayals are by the characters playing Vanraj, Kavya, Baa, Anuj. Anupamaa’s role is a just a bit over the top
