I was a child when Reagan was elected, and while watching the movie I was taken back in time. I remember the hostages in Iran. I remember the Wall separating East and West Germany. And I remember the political characters in the administration.
I commend Dennis Quaid on his performance as Dutch-it must have been daunting to try to "become" an icon many Americans remember. The facial expressions, the voice, the courage. I learned a lot about Ronald Reagan from the movie-I did not know about his upbringing, his relationship with his parents, or his history in Hollywood, except that he was an actor. The relationship with his first wife and with Nancy were beautifully portrayed.
Certainly there were parts of this movie that could have been "filled in" or written in for dramatic effect, but overall I highly recommend Reagan, especially at this time when politics are toxic and violent. I'm sure the leftists and liberals hate this movie, which reflect in the Rotten Tomatoes reviews. If you are a "normal" who person you will enjoy Reagan.
