I haven't seen any of the original movies, so this is my first experience with the character. I LOVE this film. Bill Skarsgard's performance of a broken man that lost his love is incredible. I could feel the calms and highs in his voice very well. You knew Eric was devastated by Shelly's death. I'll try not to spoil anything, but I loved the concept of him carrying his love so strong, that he couldn't die until the deed he felt needed doing deep down was done.
The setting and lighting are great, as I noticed the environments getting darker as Eric lost more of his feelings until it was nothing but hate for the ones who killed Shelly. I really dig the makeup and trench coat while carrying a sword. The film was a little slow, but when it kicks off, it really does. The gore is great and just as much as you would love in an Action/Horror film.
I'm not sure what the 1994 version of Eric is like, but he is RELENTLESS in this new version. There is no mercy or emotion behind his killings. He is determined to do anything to save Shelly's soul. There's a real sense of urgency in the situation and desperation in Eric's decisions and actions. I hope this will be another movie that will be given a chance. I had a lot of fun! 8/10 for me.
