I found the concept of this book interesting. I will admit, it took me about 5-7 chapters to actually start liking it. So, yes, it might seem slow at first but - HAVE PATIENCE ⏱️ - believe that there is a STORY HERE 📖 - the ENDING IS GOOD & worth the journey (to me at least). ✍🏻 Plot: After getting over the slow start, the plot slowly progresses. Yes there are a few twists (I can count 3 that were significant & I didn't see coming). This is not an action packed story so have that understanding! It was heartfelt, I could understand the character's POVs, the story was good. 🙎🏻‍♂️ Characters: I liked Scythe Faraday and his morales. He was a good mentor to the two kids and I liked that he found Citra's personality challenging and saw good in Rowan. I genuinely felt bad for Rowan throughout the book, he'd been through so much hurt. Happy to see that he didn't let that change the goodness in him. I am excited to see Rowan's development in the next books (so far, I like him the most). 🤔 Things I'm unsure about: 1. I don't know where to stand with Xenocrates (High Blade) and his morales. 2. The whole point of Tonists & how they contribute to the bigger picture. Also, I wonder what was Thunderhead's thoughts on Tonists since it "sees everything". 3. How & WHY thunderhead chose to communicate with Citra. Is it a becoming a living entity? I guess I'll find out in the next book. ❗❗❗ SPOILERS ❗❗❗ . . . > RIP Volta :( He was a good person & friend to Rowan. I genuinely cried when he gleaned himself. > Xenocrates - For someone with such power, I don't get how he endured under Goddard. Yes, he was being blackmailed, but he easily could've out-powered him? Idk, not enough background was shared about Goddard as to how he came into controlling Xenocrates. I hope I learn about this later & how Xenocrates turns out. Also, Rowan & Xenocrates heartfelt understanding at the end was sweet. > Citra's smart move to save Rowan's life.. GIRL, yes!! Also, when Rowan made it into the car & met Faraday AWWWWW :')

Didn't enjoy it. It's nothing like the Cruel Prince. My emotional journey (emoji version) while reading this book. ☺️→😕→🤨→😩😴→😮‍💨→😀→😑 I'm someone who finishes a book in 2-3 days which are like 700 pages. This 300 page book took me 2 weeks because I had to force myself to get through.. UHHHHHH... The first book was okay, this book felt like such a missed opportunity. Honestly, felt bad for Oak as he had potential and his story could've been great with Suren. Holly's fairy books plot follow a "betrayal after betrayal after betrayal" pattern, so this series attempted to replicate that too. Just, the plot was neither good nor executed well. The ending felt like someone said "you have 5 mins to wrap this up" -.- The only character I enjoyed in this book was Cardan from Cruel Prince. He had like 5 lines and felt like a cameo but somehow held up. Thanks Cardan.

Tropes - Touch-her-and-you-die, morally grey MMC x sunshine FMC, betrayal. *SPICY, INTERESTING PLOT, ADORABLE CHARACTERS* Having started with the King of Sin series before reading this, I now wish I had read this series before. While it doesn't make a huge difference, some characters and locations do overlap between the two series and I love a good crossover (however insignificant)! Alex (MMC) is the dark, sexy, rich, freak-in-the-bed, trauma-driven total sweetheart! This book actually had me fanning myself because the spice was ooof! Some of the kinks were definitely not for me, but it was interesting to read about em. Ava (FMC) is the always bright, cheerful, positive look on life, adorable kind of girl. Both the characters' past was tragic and sad, so it was nice to see both of them get together and support each other. Their chemistry was great. Both were equally attracted to each other. Favorite scene - I loved the photography studio scene a lot as well as the bonus scene proposal. It's a 4.5/5 rating from me.

I actually enjoyed this book. Ana's writing in this book was great. Yes, it isn't as spicy as the first two books in the series, and yes, the heat, tension is much less. However, due to the different trope, the story is decent paced, touching, and sweet. It was heartbreaking and I truly empathized with the FMC. That being said, while I understood MMCs backstory and his fear-driven actions, it was nice to see him understand her POV, accept responsibility, and work towards making amends. **spoiler** It was a nice to see Twisted series' character and location cameos in this!

If you're a first time Ana Huang reader like me, this series is a good entry point IMO. I have read all the published books in this series so far (i.e., till book #4 King of Sloth). @Ana, I want to thank you for including "Playlist" recommendations before each book!!! I love listening to music when I read books and so I was excited to see an author list songs they enjoyed when working on the book! Read my spoiler-free review below :) -------- Here's what I think & why YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY READ THIS: About this book #1 - OH MY GOD....SPICY, SEXY, ROMANTIC, RICH, & CUTE. 1. Do you love an overprotective MMC? 2. Do you enjoy the "touch her, and you die" or "who did this to you" trope? 3. Do you enjoy an extremely romantic MMC who can't stop thinking of 4. FMC and gets mad at himself for how much he thinks of her? 5. Do you enjoy MMC who will have your back and fight your battles for you when no one else would? If you said yes to all, then no brainer. Go read the book. He's tall, sexy, rich, oh and if you find Italian sexy, then plus point. ---------- About the series - It gets better, trust me! The couple dynamics between the different characters per book, each having different personality, makes the series so much more interesting. Yes, the spice is out of the world in each book with MMC & FMC both saying things that are **chef's kisses** ----------
