NO Spoilers Below:
Let me start by saying that The Matrix really did change my life. It came out when I was just deciding what I wanted to do with myself and had a tremendous impact on my decision to pursue a career in technology. So, I'm a die-hard true blue fan. I see a lot of bad reviews but this movie exceeded my expectations. Obviously, the only way you get Neo and Trinity back is to do some gymnastics plot-wise, and I personally think they handled it beautifully. It was not just a call-back to the originals, but some of that was necessary and if they had not done some of that I think there would be even more shade thrown at them. There is so much to like about this film - my only complaint was that we didn't get to have Hugo Weaving back as agent Smith, and I wish Lawrence Fishburne had a role - his part of the mythos of The Matrix is so iconic at this point. With all of that said - if you are a Matrix fan, you should find plenty to be happy about in this film and I hope they make another.
P.S. Neil Patrick Harris was amazing in this movie and I get the sneaking suspicion that people are panning it because it was "woke" and we have to make everything political now. I didn't get that from this film but there seems to be as many people on both sides of every possible argument on a hair-trigger - ready to assassinate anything they don't agree with. Leave your politics at the door and enjoy the ride for once.
