Be prepared for tears while watching this film.
Without doubt, this film is beautifully cast, as well as being an extraordinary adaptation of the book. Although it's not based on a true story, I can see the parallels of the main characters and real life folks who grew up in a different time in small towns. Having grown up in a small town in S. TX for the earlier part of my life, this movie did not stretch too far from what I saw as truth for some people. I could not help but fall in love with the protagonists, young Kya, grown Kya, young Tate, and grown Tate. Then, you have the brilliant supporting actors, who really set the scene and pulled the story together. This film is my definition of a harrowing emotional and physical journey. The filmography is well done, but the scenery really tops it off. The subtle grace of the marshes and nature is captured so beautifully, it really blew me away. This film sucked me in to the point where I felt like I was there for a moment. Although the ending could hold its own with just the love story itself, the final peace of the puzzle settles into place at the very end. I did not suspect the very last bit, but I was happy with that ending.
I hope I didn't give too much away. 😉
