The show ended with absolutely no consequence to anyone except Elena, maybe. The disparities between status/class/wealth was done well enough but almost always felt like race was shoehorned in there. Mia is the worst character and experiences no repercussions to any of her actions (there are multitudes of actions taken by this sociopathic woman, my god.) And what was that blackface scene with Izzy? Grossly pandering to a loud minority while doubling as a way to explore izzy’s identity, now effectively making her a racist student who’s mentor criticized her protest with appropriation in the middle of a “suburban adoptive mother trying to pay off birth mother” scandal. I mean, cringe. The only reason this show gets a third star is because all the characters were played very very well.
