I don't understand how this is getting so many good reviews.. It feels like a 4+ hour movie was chopped up and fit into a 2.5hr segmented choppy mess.. It is so hard to follow, and you have no idea what's going on unless you already know the story..
*Somewhat spoiler examples*
*Characters are told to go places and to do specific things, warned of the many dangers and shown a few tips on how to survive... You think to yourself after hearing all the warnings ..."Oh, this will be awesome!"... Scene ends, and the next second its weeks/months later! You never hear of the epic survival missions, or what happened during them.
*You never get to see how anyone gets to the points in time it keeps jumping to.. Multiple characters have huge visual changes from one second to the next without any explanation on how or why.
And these time jumps happen every 10-15 minutes it feels like... Its such a convoluted mess. I love Dune, but this directors decision to leave out almost every key part of the movie made this unbearable to watch... You get hyped for a scene, and it just skips it... It should not be a "Read the books if you want to know what happens", or "Use your imagination to fill in the blanks" when you are watching a movie like this.
*Also.. A lot of the main characters in the first film were either tossed out, or only given a few minutes of screen time. They will go from being in leading spots, to poor beggars the next scene with a massive time skip and ZERO explanation as to how or why.
I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but its just very upsetting to me how this film was edited.
Visually the movie is beautiful... But the directing and pacing kills it.
