Unlike others, I've loved most live adaptations that Disney does. But this was just..bad. I couldn't even finish the movie it was that bad. The movie felt rushed, especially in the beginning. I think the horrible reviews on this movie speak loud. The 1953 Peter Pan was magical and nearly perfect, minus the racism of course. This movie aimed to take that out but they did it in a poor way. Spolier:
Tiger Lily is thrown in randomly. Wendy is looking for her brothers and Peter when suddenly the Lost Boys appear and start shooting arrows at her and then she sees Tiger Lily and says "Oh you're Tiger Lily" or something dumb. They could have kept the tribe in without the added racism and sterotypes, instead of randomly putting her in. Not to mention Tinkerbell was pushed to the side, no longer being the sassy fairy we love.
Also, I get giving newer young actors a chance but they were falling flat. There was no passion behind their voices. Not even all the characters costumes were accurate. Captain Hook is supposed to gave a huge red coat and hat with a feather, yet you'll find that missing. Peter Pan looks nothing like the one we love. They could've at least got a more accurate costume. No wonder this movie didn't go to the theaters, it's awful. I don't know what the goal of this movie was, retell the story minus the racism? Make Wendy more of a main character? Introduce Hook in a better light? Make everyone despise Peter because he's so much more arrogent?
