My 9 years old daughter was extremely disappointed when she watched the movie. She is a big fan of the books, and she couldn’t believe the author thought the movie was a success. She wanted to see the beautiful, ordinary stories from the book come to life on the big screen. However, the story was forced to include a lot of conflict, and the robot changed from being an observer and participant to becoming a savior. She angrily asked me, "Before the robot appeared, were these animals incapable of surviving the winter?"
I completely agree with her perspective. Forcing conflict and dramatization often diminishes the original emotion of the story. How can we better tell these warm, simple stories, so they truly touch people’s hearts?
