Going into the movie I was excited to see the direction they would take with the characters and the plot. Originally, Batman was a detective comic so I was hoping for a little more cerebral plot lines than previous iterations. The movie tried it's best to keep viewers interested in Riddler's game but ultimately, the movie is not as clever as it thinks it is. As the movie progressed I felt the characters became less interesting and the plot less intriguing. Those who are waiting for a gotcha moment or turn at the end should not hold their breath. The film noir cinematography was done extremely well. Despite the dark tone you could actually "see" the fight scenes. The acting is well done. However (and I say this with a lot of newer movies), this movie has zero rewatchability. I can't think of one memorable scene, dialogue, action sequence, or plot twist that would make me want to see this again. The disconnect of characters in the DC universe makes it even worse (can you imagine a Joaquin Phoenix joker reveal at the end). Instead, you get some other actor reintroducing a character that we have seen half a dozen times. People will continue to see these movies, but it's obvious halfway through the movie that peak Batman was Bale and Ledger sharing the screen.
