Laura Kuenssberg began her Sunday morning, after the departure of Andrew Marr, on BBC1, assuring her audience, in her promotion of the program, that she'd put salient questions but be fair.
Watched an interview yesterday where she's asking questions and not giving the respondent any respect or time to answer them, without interjecting and talking over him.
After one of the interviews on Sunday morning, she'd talked over the guest so much, I had absolutely no idea of his views on anything, given he'd had no opportunity to express them. Her MO seemed to be simply to tear him down.
Hardly "fair", Laura!
So disappointed, as her 3-part series; State of Chaos, was perhaps one of the most informative and professional political programs I've seen in a very long time.
Can't help but wonder if she’s being egged on in some way to make her interviews more confrontational.
If so, they’re badly misjudging the audience, whom, I suspect, may be like me, wanting to be INFORMED!!!
That doesn’t mean tearing to bits, with absolute disrespect and discourtesy, the person she’s supposed to be interviewing. More like an inane exchange of point-scoring only … to achieve what???
Shall try one last time next Sunday.
[By the way, I did try out Sky's alternative yesterday ... what a positive difference the latter was in comparison. THAT’s the way to interview someone … at least give the guest time to answer, listen carefully and then challenge on that basis. Laura used to do this.]
Am guessing that I am not the only one who feels this way.
