Weird! Not sure what to rate it. Feels a bit like marmite, you'll either get it or you won't. Brilliant, but terrible at the same time and strangely gripping all the way through, hence sitting through all 2hrs 20 mins of it. Left me feeling kind of perplexed. Big build up to a big event that actually turns out to be a none event, then skews off onto some other weird tangent. Think you need to have read the book to get the movie. I haven't read the book but rather intrigued.

Acceptable level of harmless inoffensive cheese for a lazy Sunday afternoon viewing with the kids.. variable amounts of cringe. 😬 Kids got bored with it very quickly, husband fell asleep, I spent the whole movie trying to figure out who the bad guys reminded me of.. finally sussed it - Nicolas cage and Bridget Fonda...(the 'Wish' versions) 😆 Storyline could have been good if the acting was better. Think - school production loosely based on The Goonies meets Stand by me with a little National treasure thrown in for good measure and your halfway there.
