I recently read this book Small Teaching and I find this book is interesting and surely helps mentors to provide guidelines to enhance their teaching and learning process. It talks about various teaching learning strategies for eg. Retrieving, Connecting, Motivating, expanding, and etc.
Among all the chapters, I like Retrieving,
It talks about everyday 5/5 mins opening and closing remarks or questions to retrieve students' knowledge and skills. Which helps them remember for long-term and saves time. For mentors it's the chance to do daily assessment without telling them.
Retrieving can be done in various way.. asking/answering, drawing, writing and Dramatisation or role play.
Before you practice Retrieving everyday set your clear expectations and time bound from the learners and motivate them.
I have been doing this exercise regularly before starting the class and before leaving the class. I got to know that children are really sharp and remembered small details and for mentors even easy to clear the misconceptions about the topic or lesson.
Same question and same technique may find monotonous and boring so have changes in style.
