1. Big fan of that 70s show
2. Grew up in the 90s
3. Was very excited for this series and the concept was intriguing
Now, how I feel about that 90s show:
It starts out fairly rough. The jokes weren't funny, the acting was awkward and the OG cast cameos were awesome yet forced, plus you can tell by the way they were talking that they weren't going to be regulars...which was disappointing. This was quickly alleviated by the fact that the 2 funniest TV parents were back! Red and kitty. Every episode gets funnier than the last, with red and kitty being the funniest...by far. The kids, however, are kinda bland. The original cast all had their shtick. Fez being a suave yet awkward foreigner, Eric being the level-headed dork, Donna being a butch love interest of Eric, Hyde being a hippie stoner rebel, Jackie being a spoiled loud mouth with no filter and Kelso....being Kelso! These new kids are all close but they need something more to make this show work. The ones that are closest are Ozzie, the gay Asian that sasses everybody, Kelsos son is a more chill but close reincarnation of og Kelso and Leia, who seems to be a less confident version of Eric. The other 3 are just kinda there. All that being said, they're all still likeable except for Ozzie. Other than the one great scene where he comes out to kitty, his character is really in the way. His sass isn't funny...its annoying. He doesn't really feel like a part of the group. I think there's still hope for the whole cast tho. They just need to be more defined.
In all, I'd give the series a B+. I'm not happy with only 10 episodes but maybe that was needed to make sure they should make more...which I think will happen. They just need to add more layers to the new cast and have more of the original cast...including Danny. They also need to make it feel more like the 90s. There's too much of a modern day feel. The reality is that we're way further in time away from the events in that 90s show than we were from the events in that 70s show when it first aired. Still great show...definitely recommend.
