Beautiful aesthetics, but infuriating game.
I’ve played games since Atari. 15 years using Xbox Live. Never have I played a game as frustrating as Jedi Fallen Order. 15 mins into the game I had to go looking for a YouTube walk-through ‘cause it wasn’t clear what I was supposed to do. For some reason my character couldn’t jump far enough and my progress was stopped already?
I’d have to refer to walk-though videos many more times because of the very weird choices in this game. You travel to one planet, explore 20% of it and have to go to another? Then travel back to the first planet once you have gotten an upgrade so you can open doors and reach parts of the map. Spending half the game in the maps trying to return to the ship isn’t fun. And every time you save your game, all the enemies nearby respawn. Why?
What is worst is how repetitive it is. Every planet you visit has something you slide on: ice, mud, etc. There are areas you need to walk carefully across, or hang from, whether it’s a branch, or metal beam or pipe. When fighting just mash all the buttons for a while until an animated move finishes off the bad guy. Zzzzzz.
Being in Star Wars environments is cool and the game mostly looks and sounds great. A few times the cut-scenes were out of sync with the voice actors lines or the lead characters eyes were crossed. Why hasn’t this been fixed on a 3 year old game? These things felt so sloppy, like this game was made by a committee that was overworking junior programmers. I imagine there was lots of corporate feedback and not enough time or QA to test and fix things. Glad I got it on sale and I definitely won’t be buying the follow-up, Jedi Survivor. Have already deleted it from my console after playing over a few days.
