The well-knit story of the first two is missing in this film. The ending happens to be hurriedly scripted. Sophia Coppola as Mary could have been lively; she may not be shining smart, but she could have been simple without being almost lifeless, especially when posed against Andy Garcia who delivers an intense performance. Absence of Robert Duval/Tom Hagen is quite pronounced. Despite these and few more weaknesses, the film keeps the thirst for a sequel, and, therein lies its forte.
