I have read all of Samsungs books with Shardlake and had my own mental image of the character. The Dysney + series not only surpassed my expectations, but provided new insight into the complexities of life for Shardlake in Tudor England. As an Histoeian and ex Teacher, I am usually very sceptical of Historical narrative put on the screen. Not in this case. The actor who portrayed Shardlake possessed the sensitivity, kindness , clever and authoritarian characteristics of a 21st century Lawyer and Detective. He became my hero when I read the books, now more so. If you haven't watched the series yet, then do so. The Dysney channel have certainly filmed this with exquisite photography, suitable for a very eerie Holywood film. Much ,much better than Wolf Hall in all respects.
