I just finished watching the movie, and I must say that I enjoyed it. I pictured Cheryl (Neve) as a bad mother, but at the end I understood that she just had to do what she had to do. The movie would have done better with more depth, not everyone understands the effects of trauma, abandonment and being on the wrong side of racism. Cheryl was traumatised, but we have to imagine it because we were not shown. Diane and Carl were abandoned by their parents and relatives, again, we have to imagine it, because we were not shown. Consequently, only emotionally intelligent people would appreciate and enjoy the movie.
