This visually appealing movie is a true gem. It is the story of loneliness, despair, love and hope told through two men; one whose intellect allows him to contemplate and know despair and his, until now, “nice,” emotionally unencumbered friend who he pushes away. It is about the depths to which despair can take us; it is about denial and acceptance; it is about hope, grace, and love. And although set 100 years ago, it is just as relevant today. Any highly talented, creative, smart individual struggling with depression might recognize themselves in Brendon Gleason’s character and understand how far someone who loves them will go to save them.
