I have not read the book but in my opinion it is the best war film i have ever seen. It portrays the war in such a realistic way. I even prefer it to 1917. I can't recommend this film enough. I saw a 1 star review on this saying that it makes you "feel sorry for nazis". This idiot has no concept on history. This was the first world war. There were no nazis during this period. Also even if it was a perspective of the German side during WW2, most of them were not nazis and just joined because they had to... Rant over.
