A very good adaption of the Original story. A few jump scares and body horror moments . The movie slightly lags in the middle but pulls it all together at the end. Some very beautiful, atmospheric, yet creepy shots. What I particularly like about the movie is that it doesn't portray the characters as dumb and unbelievable. Their minds are under attack as well as their bodies and they behave in a reasonably intelligent way (especially considering, if you know anything about Lovecraft, that 'reason' is out of the window!) They are facing something beyond human comprehension. That is always the theme of Lovecraft. Faced with such things any human response becomes pointless and insanity is the natural result. This movie does a good job in depicting that descent into insanity and your entire world view collapsing, but without giving way to hysteria, instead giving way to delusion, confusion and helplessness. As such it lacks the sentimentality of many American Movies and I can applause it for that alone.
