Strong points: the special effects are beautiful, and they completely carry the show in my opinion. The bending was spectacular to watch, and when Aang turned into the giant Godzilla fish I was super stoked. The martial arts scenes were super good as well and the way they blended the martial arts with the bending was great. Some of the actors that I thought did a really good job were Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas James Liu (Zuko), and Maria Zhang (Suki). I didn’t expect Ousley or Liu to be so convincing, but they truly made me believe they were Sokka and Zuko. Aang was “Aang” in some scenes, but I have to be honest and say he didn’t consistently convince me like the other actors I mentioned..
Weak points: I don’t want to discredit any of the actors or actresses, but I would say this was one of the weaker points of the show. Understandably, it is very difficult to emulate characters that have so long been beloved by a massive fan base for decades. I don’t want to say who I thought did a particularly bad job (lol) because there is no way I could emulate any of these characters myself. But I will say that there were a few characters that seemed a little odd to be casted even if they are otherwise good actors. I thought Boomy could have been casted a little better, or maybe they could have done the makeup differently, Idk. But he didn’t capture that same affable, maniacal charm that Boomy has in the show. I also thought that Ty Lee and Mai could have been cast a bit better. I remembered them being a bit more like individuals and not like dim-witted minions.
