This show is well-directed. I cried a lot watching this show, it was gut-wrenching. I felt sad about how the Jews were treated by the Nazis and disgusted by the Nazis' actions. The Boy in the striped pajamas depicts how Jews were treated and how most Germans viewed Jews during the Holocaust. It shows the innocence between Bruno and Shmaul and the difference between their worlds. The audience can vividly see the difference between children and adults. Most children and adults see the world in different ways. Most adults in the movie except a few like Bruno's mother, viewed Jews as evil people that they need to get rid of while the children except Bruno's sister think differently. We can see the meaning of nature vs. nurture in this movie. Over the course of the movie, the audience sees how children can be easily influenced by the world around them and adults. Bruno's sister is an example, she did not view Jews as evil until her father employed a tutor who taught her and her brother that they should hate Jews because they aren't human. Bruno's sister conformed to what the tutor was teaching them while Bruno did not. Bruno's mother and grandmother represent the compassion of women and their rationality. Both of them understood what was going and were against it. We see how society invalidates the feelings of people that do not share a common belief as it. Bruno's grandmother was killed because of her beliefs and Bruno's father did not validate the feelings of his wife who shared the same belief as her mother-in-law.
