*obligatory I’m a chef alert* this movie was an absolute blast from start to finish. The film disguises itself as a murder-mystery thriller but only to one end; to skewer every aspect of fine dining culture. There is not a single party that is left without offense. From the variety of cliche customers, the front of house staff, the cooks and sous’ and even the chef himself. It’s a nasty bit of satire that lays bare a lot of what many of us see in the culture but don’t want to say so as not to offend. There is a grim and hilarious truth to the whole situation and if you are in the industry (or at least a little bit jaded to it) The Menu is not to be missed. I look forward to picking it apart while I pick apart various vegetables and animals.
