James Nerlinger (Noctaire)

So…I really do want to like this show, but…. ☹️ First and foremost - the plot of the series is a hot mess. By itself, if you’ve never read the book…it ain’t bad. If you HAVE read the book though, you’ll be wondering why they call the show Lives of the Mayfair Witches. They combine characters, have a dead character alive and middle aged, completely botch the backstories of the leads, and in their attempts at DEI they totally sell out (the original story, from the book, does far better). What’s more - the sixth episode is completely new content; none of it happened in the book. I’m not Talking a little bit either - nearly everything in the episode is not part of the original story. The casting is messy too. Alexandra Daddario is a great actress and she does ok as Rowan but she just doesn’t fit the part. Tongayi Chirisa as the sort of combined Curry/Lightner…all wrong. I do like Jack Huston as Lasher and Beth Grant is a good Carlotta. Harry Hamlin is great as Cortland but the way they’ve written the character is all screwed up (well…that and the fact he’d been long dead before Rowan ever even returned to NOLA). It’s a shame, really. Honestly, I do not for one second believe Anne Rice would have allowed them to change so much of her story. There’s taking creative license and there’s butchering a story. This is a hack job.
