I am enchanted by the cast who is betraying the life and writing's of Ms. Lister. Her journal and life story had been lost to history for so long, and I am elated that her journals have been rediscovered and translated for the world to enjoy. Often the hardships of same sex relationships and life as a woman in that time, have been forced to remain suppressed and or subjected to cruelty of mankind's belief of moral or society's judgments of what is or isn't the norm. Ms. Lister had the courage, tenacity, and social status in the late 1700's to early 1800's to live her life true to her nature. She was clever enough to hide the majority of her incriminating actions in a coded script in her journals, for she knew it would be condemning if discovered.
Ms. Lister was not just a fairly open lesbian woman, she was educated, a land owner, and a successful buisnesswoman during a time when women had no right's, and or place in society to do so. She was a pioneer in her own right. Thank you HBO, for bringing this amazing historical treasure of a woman to the forefront in the world several 100 years past her time.
