I think this guy is great. You have to provoke a dog a little, in order to teach them not to react when provoked. I guess some trainers supposedly took a dislike to the fake hand method, to get a dog used to pets from strangers. It is both common sense and fact that they need to learn good behavoir in situations they are normally uncomfortable with and there is nothing wrong with that. In a perfect world a stranger would know better than to run up to a dog they don't know and try to pet it. Unfortunately people are stupid and it will happen. Kids especially don't know any better. I have a pitbull I personally rescued. I was addicted to drugs. Growing up in a nice area, I had only one place I knew to get them in a bad area. At this place, I watched 4 guys starve their first pitbull until it died and after they joked about it. Then they got another dog for some reason and I couldn't do nothing for the sake of my habit, after bearing witness to the first dog death. The second pitbull they kept in a closet. Kicked him. Fed him potato chips. No dog food in the house. He cowered shaking profusely in a dark corner, in his own urine. I said I had a dog and pee pads, so they asked me to bring them because they never let him out. Too much work. So I brought the pee pads in a very large bag. I left the pads and ran off with the dog in the bag and out the door. My heart was pounding the whole time. These were not good guys. I don't know what they would have done to me or the dog if they had caught me. Luckily I lived an hour away. 6 days later when they noticed their kick bag was missing from the closet, they messaged me. They knew it had to be me, but didn't know where I lived. I tried to keep using after that, but not knowing anyone else meant I got ripped off 90% of the time. It forced me to get clean. He saved me but he also was a very traumatized dog. It is only through watching these type of shows, that I even started to learn what to do. We are not all wealthy enough to be able to afford 3 week intensive dog training and boarding. Credit where credit is due, this guy is awesome. Saving pitbulls, the sweetest most loyal dogs on earth....I can't imagine anything better. Teaching a dog to sit is completely different than teaching a dog that knows only hate and violence in regards to anyone but you, is extremely difficult and requires training that differs from standard protocol....because it just simply does not work any other way. I was single and celibate for almost 5 years after rescuing him, because I couldn't have him around anybody! So yeah, I am very passionate about people who do this work and learning from these shows! It wasn't until I reconnected with someone I knew as a kid (and was sure wouldn't sue me or worse have him put down)....that I was able to try to have a life again while clean. This show is awesome not only for the dogs, but the people who are priviledged enough to own them. Wouldn't change a thing. Success: Had a 7 year old kid run into the back closed part of my booth at an art fair when I wasn't looking and come up and pet my baby....with no reaction from my dog!!! He let the kid charge and pet him and was gentle. Succes: Jas literally helped saved by training hundreds of rescue dogs!
